Resumen
¿Puede el crimen desafiar la satisfacción democrática? Aunque mucho se ha escrito sobre la democracia, pocos trabajos han ponderado en su análisis los efectos del crimen en la satisfacción ciudadana por la democracia. Estos trabajos han enriquecido nuestro saber sobre la democracia, pero generalmente se han restringido a estudios de caso en un período de tiempo acotado. Usando 14 encuestas de Latino- barómetro, 154,100 encuestados, de 1995 a 2009, en 18 países de América Latina, este estudio muestra que cuando los latinoamerica- nos perciben un incremento en los niveles de criminalidad, se sienten decepcionados con la democracia, y la satisfacción democrática dis- minuye.
