Mexican elections 2024: social context, candidatures and emotional climate
Abstract
Abstract
Several issues stand out around an electoral call, among the central ones are the assessment of the social context and the perception of the emotional climate, as well as the “rational” and “emotional” expectations of citizens regarding the candidates, parties or coalitions, their programs and country projects. This work focuses on these issues in Mexico and the 2024 elections. This is done through several opinion polls that outline a pre-electoral panorama of political culture and public opinion in accordance with the electoral results, as well as interviews on the subject. Although there is diversity of opinion, there is a tendency, on the one hand, towards a positive consideration of the personal and country economy, present and future; on the other hand, a pointing out of the persistence and increase of insecurity; in addition to the approval of the social support
of the government; and finally, a socio-emotional atmosphere of hope; to which is added the characterization and positive assessment of the official candidate on a personal and political level.
Key words: elections, context, perceptions, expectations, Mexico.
