ELEMENTOS BUROCRÁTICOS EN LOS GOBIERNOS MUNICIPALES EN MÉXICO
Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the bureaucratic characteristics of municipal governments in Mexico. From a Weberian perspective, a bureaucratic elements index is constructed using the Principal Components Analysis method. The data are drawn from the 2023 National Census of Municipal Governments. The results reveal significant heterogeneity across municipalities: for instance, those with lower levels of marginalization exhibit a greater number of bureaucratic elements compared to highly marginalized municipalities. Furthermore, on an exploratory basis, a positive relationship is identified between the index and local tax collection. This preliminary finding is consistent with the literature emphasizing the favorable effects of bureaucracy.
